above are next to
the tar road in
Steytlerville’s
‘Valley of the
Flags’. Originally
there was only one
flag, then a few.
However, the
Steytlerville
community under the
inspiration of Linda
Henderson – and with
the knowledge of
Prof. Otto
Terblanche -
recently added more
flags to give a sum
total of 18
different flags!
They depict the
history of South
Africa, including
some short-lived
republics. A visit
to Steytlerville and
environs may be
worthwhile to view
the flags and the
family crests in
Main Street – no
other town that I
know of offers the
visitors all this!

condition results in

Scientist of Cornell
University in the
USA have produced
bioengineered
intervertebral discs
in the laboratory
for transplantation
into rats. Let us
hope their research
produces the results
many suffering
individuals would
welcome.

as the “French
paradox”. The
French, despite high
levels of
cholesterol and
saturated fats in
their typical diet,
have long had low
death rates from
heart disease.
Reseach suggests
that the red wine
consumed with all
the fatty food is
what is beneficial.
Recently researchers
at UCLA and Mt.
Sinai School of
Medicine have
discovered how the
naturally occurring
compounds and
polyphenols in red
wine work, and how
they may even help
to ward off
Alzheimer’s disease.

Aanvanklik was daar
net een vlag, later
meer. Maar nou het
die Steytlerville
gemeenskap onder

staan te bring! Die
vlae beeld die
geskiedenis van Suid-Afrika
uit, onder andere
die van ‘n paar

familiewapens in die

besigtig – ek weet
van geen ander dorp
wat die besoeker so
