Noorspoort Guest Farm lies in the Great Karoo in the Western Region
of the malaria free Eastern Cape.
Steytlerville is the north-eastern entrance to the Baviaanskloof. The Baviaans
Kloof is a pristine world heritage site.
Three different biomes converge in our area. Sub-Tropical Valley Bushveld, Nama
Karoo and fynbos are to be found
on Noorspoort Guest farm.
We have quite a few animal species like kudu, steenbuck, blesbuck, zebra, blue
wildebeest,
gemsbuck and duiker. Lynx and jackal make up the main predator species. We offer
informative
veld and bush drives to our lookout where you can view a spectacular sunset
whilst enjoying
snacks and sundowners. Our township tour of Steytlerville is fun and is done by
Unimog or even
by horse or donkey cart rides, weather permitting.
Camping and hiking are available. Our 4 day hike will take you through valley Bushveld, fynbos and Nama
Karroo and Succulent Karoo. Cycads are plenty, so also Euphorbias and Haworthias.
The famous Draaikrans geological rock formation lies on Noorspoort and the
worlds heaviest flying bird the Kori Bustard
nests here. Bird watchers beware--over 200 species have been recorded here

DIRECTIONS
From Port Elizabeth (the east) take the R75 towards Graaff-Reinet. Turn left
onto the R329 at the small village of Wolwefontein (basically only a hotel).
Wolwefontein lies about 50km before Jansenville. Drive for 50km and follow the
signs to Noorspoort Guest Farm, or turn right on the road to Mount
Stewart/Klipplaat/Jansenville (gravel road). Noorspoort lies 800m on your left.
(well sign posted) The whole road is tar except the last 800m.
From the west pass Willowmore for one kilometer and turn right onto the R329.
Drive 84 km to Steytlerville and turn left in the main road. Drive through town
for 5 km and turn left onto the Mount Stewart/Klipplaat/Jansenville gravel road.
Noorspoort Guest farm is on your left 800 m down the road. All well sign posted.

Hike the Karoo ! See cycads, succulents, fynbos, aloes, kudu, zebra, steenbuck,

Day 1 Valley of the Flags to Soutkloof
17 km. Your hike starts at Noorspoort, winding down the Groot Gamtoos river till
The Valley of the Flags from where your hike starts up Gwarrie Kloof to the top
of the mountain for a spectacular view of the Groot Winterhoek mountains and the
Steytlerville Karoo Plains. All along the ridge till you drop down to a koi-san
overhang. Then up and down Soutkloof to your hut.
Day 2 Soutkloof to Boma
21 km. Your day starts with hiking along fynbos to a fountain. Here the paths
winds up a rock slate past proteas and down Turksvy Kloof. Over Saalrug Ridge to
Wildehonde Gang and down the river to the famous geological wonder of
Draaikrans. Still further down the river from where the old canal will take you
to your boma where hot showers awaits you…that is if you have the energy to
light the donkey!
Day 3 Boma to Die Buitepos (or cave)
6 km (9km) The easy day. You now enter Noorspoort Private Game Reserve where you
might see zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, monkeys and more. Your walk winds along
“Die Sloot”, a 100 year irrigation canal. Here you have a choice to stay at
Buitepos Hut or hike on to Daan se grot. (Dan’s cave)
Day 4 Buitepos to Noorspoort
11km Up the mountain and down Donkerkloof. Up again to the ridge for great
north-south views. Along the top till your descent which will bring you back to
Noorspoort for a well deserved beer or cold drink!
